About the class

What makes this masterclass different from a YouTube tutorial

Most people trying to learn HTML and CSS get stuck in tutorial hell: they watch video after video, copy code they do not understand, and still cannot build something from a blank page. This class fixes that.

In 60 live minutes, a senior engineer who has worked at a top-tier tech company walks you through the exact mental model that separates developers who can build anything from developers who can only copy. You will write real code, see real mistakes get corrected in real time, and leave with a working project you built yourself.

This is not a recorded lecture. It is a live session with a live Q&A, limited to a small group so every question gets an answer. Seats fill up fast because we keep the group small on purpose.

  • Live session, not a recording
  • Real project you keep after the class
  • Instructor available for questions throughout
  • Beginner-friendly but technically rigorous
  • Backed by Interview Kickstart's 25,000-engineer track record
Class curriculum

Exactly what you will learn in 60 minutes

Every minute of this class is planned around one goal: you leave able to build a webpage from scratch.

01

The structure of every website on the internet

Minutes 0 – 10

Understand what HTML actually is and why browsers need it. No fluff, no history lesson. Just the mental model that makes everything else click.

  • What the browser does with an HTML file
  • The document tree and why it matters
  • Your first HTML file: open in any text editor
  • Tags, elements and attributes explained once, understood forever
02

Semantic HTML: writing code that means something

Minutes 10 – 20

Learn the tags that professional developers actually use, and why using the right tag makes your site rank better and load faster.

  • Headings, paragraphs, links and images
  • Lists: ordered, unordered and when to use each
  • Divs and spans: the containers that hold everything
  • Why semantic HTML matters for SEO and accessibility
03

CSS: making it look exactly how you want

Minutes 20 – 40

CSS is the language that turns a plain document into a beautiful page. We cover the rules that explain every styling decision you will ever make.

  • Selectors: how CSS finds the element you want to style
  • The box model: margin, border, padding and content
  • Colors, fonts and backgrounds
  • Flexbox in 5 minutes: the layout system that replaced everything else
04

Building a real project: a personal landing page

Minutes 40 – 55

You build a personal landing page live, from a blank file, applying everything from the first three modules. The instructor codes alongside you and explains every decision.

  • Structuring the HTML before touching CSS
  • Styling the hero section with Flexbox
  • Adding a navigation bar that works on mobile
  • Making it look polished with spacing and typography
05

What comes next and live Q&A

Minutes 55 – 60

A clear roadmap from here to your first front-end job, and open Q&A so you leave with no unanswered questions.

  • The front-end learning path: HTML to CSS to JavaScript to frameworks
  • What junior front-end interviews actually test
  • How Interview Kickstart can accelerate your path by 6 months
  • Live Q&A: ask anything

Small-group live Q&A

We cap attendance to keep the session interactive. Ask questions during the class and in the dedicated Q&A block at the end.

Front-end interview roadmap

A PDF breakdown of exactly what junior and mid-level front-end interviews test, what topics to prioritise and in what order.

Personalised next steps

Based on where you are in your journey, the instructor recommends the exact path that gets you to your first or next front-end role fastest.

Without this class

The self-study path: 6 months of scattered progress

  • Watch 20+ hours of tutorials and still feel lost
  • Copy-paste code without understanding why it works
  • Flexbox remains a mystery for months
  • No proof of learning to show an employer
  • No roadmap: endless rabbit holes, no clear next step
Average time to first working webpage without structured guidance: 3 to 6 months

In their words

What past attendees say

These are real outcomes from real people who attended the same free class you are looking at right now.

I had watched probably 20 hours of YouTube HTML tutorials and still could not build a page from scratch. After this 60-minute class I built three pages in one weekend. The box model explanation alone was worth it.
RSRohan S.Bootcamp student, now hired as junior dev
The instructor explained Flexbox in 5 minutes better than every article I had read in 3 months. I finally understand why things go where they go instead of just copying code and hoping it works.
FKFatima K.Career switcher from marketing
I came in knowing nothing. I left with a working personal landing page and a certificate. The Q&A at the end was where I got the most value. Real answers to real questions, not generic advice.
MTMarcus T.Self-taught developer, landed first contract
Most free classes are just a sales pitch. This one was actually a full lesson. I learned more here than in the first two weeks of a paid course I dropped. Highly recommend.
APAnanya P.CS student looking for internship
The project-based last 15 minutes made everything real. We built something. That is rare in a free class. The certificate on my LinkedIn got me a recruiter message the same week.
LOLiam O.Placed at a Series B startup
Arjun explained the mental model behind CSS in a way that made me go back and understand every project I had already built. It changed how I read documentation. Genuinely one of the best hours I have spent learning.
DNDeepa N.Front-end developer at Atlassian

Who this is for

This class is built for you if...

We designed every minute of this session around one kind of person. See if that is you.

Complete beginners

You have never written a line of code and want to understand what HTML and CSS actually are before committing to a longer course.

Career switchers

You are moving from a non-technical field and need a fast, credible way to test whether front-end development is the right direction.

Tutorial-hell survivors

You have watched dozens of tutorials and still cannot build from scratch. You need a live instructor to fill the gaps, not another video.

Job seekers

You need to add front-end skills to your resume quickly. This class gives you a working project, a certificate and a clear roadmap to your first role.

Students and bootcampers

You are in a CS programme or a bootcamp and want to solidify the fundamentals before moving on to JavaScript and frameworks.

Non-dev professionals

You work in product, design or marketing and want to understand what your engineering team is building, and why certain things take longer than expected.

FAQ

Everything you want to know before reserving your seat

Is this class really free?

Yes, completely. No credit card, no trial, no hidden upsell at the door. You register, you attend, you learn. That is the whole deal. We run free masterclasses because the best way to show you what Interview Kickstart can do is to actually do it.

Do I need any coding experience to attend?

None at all. The class starts from zero: what HTML is, why it exists, and how a browser uses it. If you can open a web browser and type in a text editor, you have everything you need. We have had attendees in their 50s with no technical background leave with a working webpage.

What software do I need to have installed?

Nothing special. A text editor (VS Code is free and we recommend it, but Notepad works too) and a web browser. That is literally it. You do not need to install Node, npm, a framework or anything else. HTML and CSS run directly in the browser.

Will there be a recording?

We do not distribute recordings of live sessions because the Q&A and live interaction are what make the class valuable, and a recording loses that. We run multiple sessions per week, so if you cannot make one time, register for the next one.

How is this different from a free YouTube tutorial?

A YouTube tutorial is one-way. You watch, you try to follow, you get stuck, and there is nobody to ask. This is a live session with a real instructor who can see your questions in real time and answer them. The last 5 minutes are open Q&A. Many attendees say that block alone was worth more than hours of self-study.

What happens after the class?

You will receive the project files, your certificate, and the front-end interview roadmap PDF within 24 hours. The instructor will also share a curated list of next steps: what to learn after HTML and CSS, in what order, and how long each step realistically takes. If you want to go deeper, we will tell you about Interview Kickstart's full front-end engineering programme, but there is no pressure to do anything.

How long is the class?

Exactly 60 minutes. 55 minutes of structured content and a 5-minute live Q&A. We start on time and end on time because we know you have other things going on.

Can I attend on my phone?

You can watch on your phone, but for the coding portion we strongly recommend a laptop or desktop. Writing HTML in a mobile browser is possible but uncomfortable. If a laptop is not available, attend anyway and focus on the concepts. The project files will be waiting for you when you sit down at a computer.
